Marjorie H. Loveland passed away unexpectedly Saturday January 5th, 2007

Marjorie H. Loveland, 82, of Old Saybrook, beloved wife of Hayden F. Loveland, passed away unexpectedly Saturday (January 5, 2007), at Middlesex Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Marjorie was born June 4, 1925 in Hartford, daughter of Henry Bailey House and Mabel Burditt House. Marjorie was raised in West Hartford and graduated from Hall High School and the Hartford College for Women. She also attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She was employed by the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company for 26 years, retiring in 1987. She and Hayden then spent many years in Old Saybrook, pursuing their many interests. They were both actively involved in boating activities as members of the United States Power Squadrons. She loved to swim at Great Hammock Beach, even braving the cold waters of May and October. Her many talents gave her and others great joy – her glorious flower garden frequently stopped traffic on Ferry Road. She provided a window into her spirit through her beautiful watercolor paintings. Her granddaughters reaped the benefits of her sewing and embroidery skills. "Muddy" was a devoted grandmother, always ready to attend a grandchild's concert or crew regatta. She was especially devoted to her church, where she was a member of the choir. She enjoyed the informal monthly gatherings of her alumnae friends of Hartford College for Women. She was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur B. House and Richard B. House. In addition to her husband, Marjorie is survived by her sister, Janet House Bassett of Rocky Hill, her three sons and their wives; Kenneth and Karen Loveland of West Hartford, Kevin and Maryann Loveland of Farmington and R. Scott and Mary-Jo Loveland of Farmington. She is also survived by eight beloved grandchildren; Katherine Altman and her husband David of Framingham, MA, Eric Loveland and his wife Athina of Newington, Bonnie Loveland and her companion Pam Barnhart of Sunbury, PA, Kristen Loveland of New York City, Brian Loveland of Worcester, MA, and Andrew, Brendan, and Emily Loveland of Farmington. She is also survived by several loving and attentive nieces and nephews. The funeral and burial at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford will be private. There will be a memorial service celebrating the life of Marjorie on Saturday, January 12, at 1 p.m. at Deep River Congregational Church with the Rev. Timothy Haut officiating. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Deep River Congregational Church, PO Box 246, Deep River, CT 06417.
